Disertační práce Instrumentální adaptace vybraných děl George Gershwina reflektuje umělecké úsilí autora práce v oblasti tvorby transkripcí pro smyčcové kvarteto na příkladu dvou vybraných instrumentálních hudebních děl George Gershwina. Předmět disertační práce spočívá v notografické přípravě přepisů klavírního cyklu Preludia pro klavír (1926) a symfonické básně Američan v Paříži (1928) pro účely praxe v oblasti živého provozování vážné hudby. S výslednou realizací profesionálně způsobilých a globálně publikovaných přepisů jsou spjaty hlavní cíle umělecké, zatímco stěžejní cíl teoretický spočívá v hudebních analýzách transkribované podoby obou děl. Práce je rozdělena do dvou kapitol, přičemž první z nich reflektuje současný stav bádání v oblasti tvorby hudebních úprav a využitý pramenný materiál. V rámci pracovních aktivit druhé kapitoly jsou zpracovány biografické, autorskoprávní, edukační a analytické aspekty Gershwinovy tvorby, které jsou předmětem současného muzikologického výzkumu. V přiměřené míře je zde reflektován také axiologický aspekt Gershwinovy tvorby v kontextu euroamerické hudební kultury. Předkládané umělecké výstupy v podobě čtyř tištěných partitur a hudebního CD alba jsou soustředěny v samostatném souboru příloh, který je nedílnou součástí práce a komplementárně doplňuje obsah hudebněanalytických textů.The dissertation Instrumental Adaptations of Selected Works by George Gershwin reflects the author's artistic efforts in the field of transcriptions for string quartet on the example of two selected instrumental works by George Gershwin. The subject of the dissertation consists in the notographic preparation of the piano cycle Prelude for piano (1926) and the symphonic poem An American in Paris (1928) for practical purposes in the field of live performance of classical music. The main artistic goals are connected with the resulting realization of professionally qualified and globally published transcriptions, while the main theoretical goal lies in the musical analyzes of the transcribed form of both works. The thesis is divided into two chapters, the first of which reflects the current state of research in the field of music editing and the source material used. The work activities of the second chapter include biographical, copyright, educational and analytical aspects of Gershwin's work that are the subject of contemporary musicological research. In a reasonable extent, the axiological aspect of Gershwin's work in the context of Euro-American musical culture. The presented artistic outputs in the form of four printed scores and a music CD album are concentrated in a separate set of appendices, which are an integral part of the thesis and complement the content of the music analytical texts.
