Práce je zaměřena na motivaci k praktikování magie u magiků v rámci evropské hermetické tradice. Výzkumné otázky mají za ambici odpovědět, jaké jsou cíle a sociální aspekty magické praxe a jaká s ní spojená pozitiva, negativa a vztah k náboženství respondenti vnímají. V teoretické části jsou komparovány pohledy na magii a následně vymezena její definice. Dále je popisován vztah magie k jiným oblastem a stručně členěna dle jednotlivých aspektů. Následně jsou vymezeny výzkumy a jejich hlavní výsledky v oblasti magie a alternativní religiozity. Praktická část vychází z kvalitativního přístupu, data byla získána pomocí semistrukturovaného interview a následně zpracována metodou zakotvené teorie. Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 5 respondenty. Výsledky výzkumu se opírají o šest hlavních kategorií uspokojení z praktikování magie, sociální aspekt, rozšířené poznání, náboženství, dosažení cílů a seberozvoj, jež jsou následně členěny do subkategorií. Na jejich základě jsou interpretovány výsledky výzkumu. Hlavním přínosem práce je vytvoření motivační struktury, která zachycuje potřeby, tendence a cíle magiků k magické praxi.The thesis is focused on motivation for practicing of magic by magicians in the frame of European hermetic tradition. Research questions are supposed to answer such issues as what are the aims and social aspects of magic practice and what are the positive and negative aspects and relationship to religion noticed by respondents regarding this practice. In theoretical part there are compared perspectives of magic and then its definition given. Afterwards the relationship between magic and other areas is described and it is sorted according to particular aspects. Next the research is defined and its main outcomes in the field of magic and alternative religions. Practical part is based on qualitative approach, data was gathered by means of semi-structured interview and subsequently processed by grounded theory method. The research group was made up of 5 respondents. The research results rely on six main categories satisfaction from magic practice, knowledge extension, religion, reaching the aims and self-development, which are subsequently divided into sub-categories. The research results are stated on their base. The main benefit of this thesis is creating of motivational structure which retains needs, tendencies and aims of magicians for magic practice.
