Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, jaké Scientologická církev používá manipulativní techniky. Ke zpracování dat byla použita tématická analýza podle Strausse a Corbinové (1999) triangulována metodou kategoriálního systému, který je podrobnějším analytickým aparátem analýzy dat orientované na případy dle Milese a Hubermana (1994) in Hendl (1999). Základem analýzy je doslovná transkripce rozhovorů s vybranými členy Scientologické církve. Pro vyhodnocení jsou použity kategorie vygenerované na základě tématické analýzy a systém kategorií s kritérii psychické manipulace podle J.Liftona (1984). Shromážděná fakta a výsledky analýzy nasvědčují tomu, že Scientologická církev používá širokou škálu manipulativních technik (Büchnerová, 1999; Hassan, 1994; Vojtíšek, 1998; Rushkoff, 1999) i manipulativních technik, které jsou znakem totalitní ideologie podle Liftona (1987). -- Abstract: The thesis examines a possible incidence of coercion techniques in the Church of Scientology. The aim of research was to discover whether the Church of Scientology uses coercion techniques, or rather whether its members do. The data has been processed by the method of category system, which is the more detailed analytical device of case-oriented data analysis by Miles and Huberman (1994) in Hendl (1999). The ground of the analysis is formed by an exact transcription of the interviews with chosen members of Church of Scientology. It has been evaluated with complex system of categories with mental manipulation criteria by J.Lifton (1984), which have been postulated for assessment of the totalitarian regime in his essay The Future of Immortality and Other Essays for a Nuclear Age. The collected facts and outcome of analysis indicate that the Church of Scientology uses coercion techniques, which are a characteristic of totalitarian ideology by Lifton (1987) and so it is possible to consider the Church of Scientology to be a malign cult or a sect.
