This work deals with the utilization of the phraseological units in German TV news. The main aim is to find out to which extent these linguistic units occur in this kind of text. Then the stress is laid on the similarities and tendencies in their usage. These tendencies are examined from different points of view: according to the kinds of the phraseological units (classification), according to their meaning (semantic fields), and also according to their functions. In the first part, the questions of phraseology are discussed on a theoretical level, in the second part the research alone takes place.
