Diplomová práce se zabývá životem a dílem Kate Chopinové a Katherine Mansfieldové, s důrazem na vliv širšího kulturně-společenského kontextu, ve kterém tvořily. Jejím hlavním cílem je zodpovědět na otázku, do jaké míry a jakým způsobem byly tyto dvě spisovatelky součástí fenoménu "Nové ženy``, a zda a do jaké míry je tedy lze označit za feministické autorky. Tato práce rovněž poukazuje na podobnosti a společné prvky, které spojují dílo Kate Chopinové a Katherine Mansfieldové, a to zejména v otázce jejich vnímání ženské identity a postavení ženy v patriarchálně založené společnosti.The thesis is concerned with the life and work of the writers Kate Chopin and Katherine Mansfield, with focus on the influence of cultural and social contexts of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century on their literature. The aim of the thesis is to show in what ways Kate Chopin and Katherine Mansfield and their writing took part in the phenomenon of the "New Woman", and to what extent can we identify these two women writers as feminist authors. The thesis also points to certain similarities and common features that unite the work of Kate Chopin and Katherine Mansfield, especially concerning their view of women's identity and women's position in the patriarchal society.
