Tato práce je zaměřena na zachycení historického vývoje postavení a role první dámy Spojených států amerických a pohled americké veřejnosti na ni. Značná část práce je pojata jako rozbor příspěvku k rozšíření definice úlohy a aktivit každé ze čtyř vybraných manželek amerických prezidentů v různých časových obdobích, který má demostrovat odlišné tendence v chápání této "funkce`` a obecné úlohy ženy ve společnosti.The presented work is concerned with an effort to capture a historical development of the post and the role of First Lady of the United States and her image in the eye of the general public. The main part of this work conceives the analyses of the contribution to a new definition of four chosen women´ tasks and activities in a different period of time. The aim is to illustrate diverse movements of understanding of the "function`` and the general role of woman in society.
