All these movies were stigmatised by the pessimism and the gloomy ambiance of the period. The thesis expands on how the most important traumas of the decade were reflected in these films. The paper also analyses the genre. Another important aspect of the paper is its reflection of the paranoic tradition as a tradition deeply enrooted in the history of cinematography. The paper focuses primarily on Alan J. Pakula´s films. The chapter about The Parallax View describes in detail Pakula´s work with americans symbols and icons and their subsequent relativization, apparent above all in the sequence of the film called Test. The chapter about All the President´s Men analyses the process of adaptation of an important historical trauma on the screen.
