Následující část práce věnuji výběru nocovišť, a to především dle termoregulačních zisků, rizika predace a ektoparazitismu. This thesis deals with roosting strategies of birds that depend on natural and anthropogenic factors. There is a large number of scientific studies focusing on this topic. This bachelor thesis aims to choose the fundamental information from contemporary knowledge and to compile a comprehensive review. Another goal of this work is to provide theoretical background for subsequent empirical work on the diploma thesis, in which I plan to study selection of the roost sites by tits. First, I discuss the physiological side of sleep in the bachelor thesis. Here I deal also with the sleep strategies that birds use when vigilance is more advantageous for them due to ecological demands. In addition, I consider adaptations that help birds save energy in the winter. Furthermore, I review the strategy of communal roosting, which is widely debated among scientists. In the following part of the thesis, I deal with the selection of roosting sites, especially according to their thermoregulatory characteristics, the risk of predation and ectoparasitism. These factors are good indicators of selection of roosting sites and the way how birds spend the night and thus have an effect on fitness and the life of birds. Finally, I present the effects of anthropogenic factors on roosting of birds and possible measures to minimalize their negative impacts. These factors are for example artificial light at night, noise and fireworks. The issue of birds' roosting is very extensive, but conclusions of individual studies are often contradictory. My effort was to present, summarize and compare some of these viewpoints.
