Studovány byly taxony F. verna subsp. verna, F. verna subsp. calthifolia, F. verna subsp. fertilis, F. verna subsp. ficariiformis a F. verna subsp. chrysocephala. Ficaria is a genus of geophytes native to Europe and adjacent parts of Asia and northern Africa. The genus is mostly considered monotypic with a single species, Ficaria verna. Seven subspecies are usually recognized, but due to their high morphological similarity, the existence of different ploidy levels and occasional hybridization, their real taxonomic value is still unresolved. The aim of this thesis was to describe morphological variability of population samples grown under uniform conditions and, eventually, to find other morphological features which would facilitate discrimination of the taxa. Plants from different parts of Europe, grown under common garden conditions, were used for data collection. The taxa studied included F. verna subsp. verna, F. verna subsp. calthifolia, F. verna subsp. fertilis, F. verna subsp. ficariiformis and F. verna subsp. chrysocephala. The characters traditionally used to determine the taxa were investigated, as well as some new traits. Significant differences were found in many characters, not only between taxa, but also between different cytotypes within the same taxon. Principal Component Analysis revealed that the taxa F. verna subsp. verna, F. verna subsp. calthifolia and F. verna subsp. fertilis are probably separate species. Ficaria verna subsp. ficariiformis is not sufficiently morphologically separated from F. verna subsp. verna. For the taxon Ficaria verna subsp. chrysocephala, no conclusions can be drawn because of a small sample, and its taxonomic position remains unclear.
