Předmětem této bakalářské práce je komparativní analýza zobrazení sexuálních identit vybraných hlavních postav z hlediska esencialistických a konstruktivistických teorií a stylových aspektů v americko-kanadských seriálech Queer as Folk US a The L Word. Teoretická část se věnuje metodologii, ve které vycházím z přístupu dekonstrukce postavy Jeremy Butlera a jeho pojetí televizního stylu, a literatuře, o kterou se v práci opírám. Analytická část zkoumá, jak se v seriálech přistupuje ke konstrukci postav na základě protikladných teorií, kde esencialismus zastává názor, že identita jedince se v průběhu života nemění a je na základě biologických předpokladů určená od útlého věku, zatímco konstruktivistický pohled říká, že identita je závislá na interakci se sociálním prostředím a v závislosti na něm se proměňuje.The subject of this thesis is a comparative analysis of the sexual identities display of selected protagonists in terms of essentialist and constructivist theories and stylistic aspects of the US-Canadian series Queer as Folk US and The L Word. The theoretical part focuses on the methodology, in which the approach of deconstruction of a character of Jeremy Butler and his concept of a television style is discussed, and literature on which this work is based. The analytical part then examines how the series approaches to the construction of the characters on the basis of conflicting theories, where the essentialism considers that the identity of the individual remains unchanged throughout life and is based on biological assumptions defined from an early age, while constructionist view says that identity is dependent on the interaction with the social environment and that it varies throughout life.
