Naše diplomová práce si klade za cíl definovat roli znakového jazyka v komunikaci osob se sluchovým postižením v letech 1948-1989 a zjistit, jak si znakový jazyk dokázal udržet svou pozici hlavního komunikačního systému neslyšících, kdo a v jakých situacích jej používal. Snažili jsme se blíže identifikovat rozdíl mezi oficiálním postojem k užívání znakového jazyka ke komunikaci osob se sluchovým postižením a realitou jeho užívání mezi neslyšícími. Součástí naší práce je nezbytné seznámení s termíny komunikace, řeč a jazyk a stručný přehled historie znakových jazyků. Podrobněji se zabýváme problematikou vzdělávání osob se sluchovým postižením v letech 1948-1989. Téma naší diplomové práce doposud nebylo zpracováno a doufáme, že naše poznatky o historii tohoto významného komunikačního systému neslyšících posílí status znakového jazyka.The aim of our thesis is to define the role of sign language in communication of people with hearing disabilities in 1948-1989 and identify how the sign language was able to maintain its position as the main communication system of the deaf, who and in what situations it was used. We have more closely tried to identify the difference between the official position to use the sign language and the reality of its use among the deaf. It is compulsory to familiarize with the terms of communication, speech and language, and brief history of sign languages. We deal more specifically with the education issue of persons with hearing disabilities in 1948-1989. The theme of our thesis has not yet been processed and we hope that our knowledge of the history of this important communication system will enhance the status of Deaf sign language.
