The purpose of this thesis is to compare the results of standardized questionnaire between adolescents with obesity diagnosis and standard adolescent population with the aim to find out, if the level of their self-concept shows statistically significant difference. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with three topics self-concept, developmental specifics of adolescence, and obesity diagnosis. The quantitative research was performed under the ESF project Development and support of quality in education nr. CZ.1.07/1.1.38/02.0034. The collection of empirical data was carried out on a computer using the Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale 2 method. Research sample is made up of 102 respondents born in the period between 1996 and 2003 with obesity diagnosis (E66). The control group of standard adolescent population is made up of 156 respondents born in the period between 1996 and 2003 and obtained from the standardization sample of the Czech version of the used method of measurement. The results of the research shows that there is no statistically significant difference in the level of self-concept between the group of adolescents with obesity diagnosis and the control group of standard population without relation to sex. In relation to sex however, a statistically significant difference was proved only in the male population. The statistical relationship between the Body mass index and the Total score of the standardized questionnaire among adolescents with obesity diagnosis was not proved.
