Vampires in the 19th Century English Literature [rukopis] / Veronika Briatková. -- 2013. -- 86. -- Oponent Matthew Sweney. -- Ved. práce David Livingstone. -- Abstract: Tato práce se zabývá vývojem upírské literatury v anglické literatuře 19. století a to konkrétně z pohledu témat pohlavní rovnosti a sexu jako společenského tabu. Ukazuje, jak se tato témata poprvé objevila v The Vampyre od Johna Polidoriho, jak byla zavržena ve Varney, the Vampire a znovuobjevena ve viktoriánském období.. -- Abstract: This diploma thesis is concerned with the development of vampire and vampire fiction in the English literature of the 19th century. The main focus will be on the themes of gender and sexual identity which was a taboo topic. The analyses show that these topic emerge in Polidori's The Vampyre, only to be condemned in Varney, the Vampire and again reinvented in the Victorian period.
