Ignáta Wurma řadíme mezi přední představitele českého vlasteneckého života na Moravě ve druhé polovině 19. století. Náležel do tzv. Sušilovy družiny - skupiny vlasteneckých kněží vychovaných Františkem Sušilem - profesorem Nového zákona na brněnském kněžském alumnátu - šířících na Moravě na počátku druhé poloviny 19. století národní myšlenky tvořené fúzí vlastenectví a katolické víry reprezentovanými tzv. Cyrilometodějskou ideou. Wurm od 50. let až do své smrti působil jako ústřední postava řady občanských spolků, v 60. a 70. letech náležel mezi přední představitele národní strany na Moravě, do konce 80. let působil na moravském zemském sněmu i říšské radě. Disertační práce zachycuje vlivy, jež jej vedly k vlastenecké a politické angažovanosti, mapuje jeho roli v řadě spolků, například v Dědictví sv. Cyrila a Metoděje či ve Vlasteneckém spolku muzejním v Olomouci a analyzuje jeho roli v nich. Dále se věnuje jeho politické aktivitě na moravském zemském sněmu i říšské radě, definuje okruhy jeho politického zájmu a praktické výsledky jeho politického snažení. Disertační práce staví především na pramenné základně a využívá celou škálu archivních materiálů zahrnujících Wurmovy pozůstalosti uložené v Moravském archivu v Brně a v Historickém archivu Vlastivědného muzea v Olomouci, osobní složku vikáře nacházející se v Zemském archivu v Opavě, pobočce Olomouc. Výzkum proběhl také v archivu Chorvatské akademie věd a umění. Další prameny tvoří zejména korespondence s Wurmovými spolupracovníky a přáteli, například Benešem Metodem Kuldou, která je uložená v Literárním archivu Památníku národního písemnictví v Praze či dobová periodika, zejména pak Hlas, Blahověst, Moravskou orlici, Našince či Časopis vlasteneckého spolku muzejního v Olomouci. Práce dále čerpá z přepisů stenografických záznamů ze zasedání moravského zemského sněmu, především z jejich tištěné podoby, tedy Moravských sněmovních listů, a ze stenografických záznamů ze zasedání říšské rady. Disertační práce zasazuje do širšího kontextu život a dílo Ignáta Wurma a díky jeho rozsáhlé činnosti ve společenské, kulturní i politické oblasti ilustruje možnou podobu českých emancipačních procesů na Moravě probíhajících ve druhé polovině 19. století a role jedince v nich.Ignát Wurm is ranked among the leading representatives of Czech patriotic life in Moravia in the second half of the 19th century. He belonged to the so-called Sušil's cohort, a group of patriotic priests educated by František Sušil, a professor of the New Testament at the Brno clerical seminary, spreading, in Moravia at the beginning of the second half of the 19th century, national ideas formed by a fusion of patriotism and the Catholic faith represented by the so-called Cyril and Methodius idea. From the 1850s until his death, Wurm acted as the central figure of a number of civic associations, in the 1860s and 1870s he was one of the leading representatives of the national party in Moravia, and until the end of the 1880s he served at the Moravian Land Assembly and the Imperial Council. The dissertation presents the influences that led him to patriotic and political involvement, maps his role in a number of associations, for example in the Heritage of St. Cyril and Methodius or in the Patriotic Museum Association in Olomouc, and analyzes his role in these institutions. It also deals with his political activity at the Moravian Land Assembly and the Imperial Council, defines the areas of his political interest and the practical results of his political efforts. The dissertation proceeds mainly from the sources and uses a range of archival materials, including Wurm's estates stored in the Moravian Archive in Brno and in the Historical Archive of the Museum of National History in Olomouc, a vicar's personal file deposited in the Land Archive in Opava, Olomouc branch. The research was also conducted in the archives of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Other sources are mainly correspondence with Wurm's co-workers and friends, such as Beneš Metod Kulda, which is stored in the Literary Archive of the Memorial of National Literature in Prague, or periodicals, especially Hlas, Blahověst, Moravská orlice, Našinec or Časopis Vlasteneckého spolku muzejního v Olomouci. The work also draws on transcripts of stenographic records of the meetings of the Moravian Land Assembly, especially from their printed form, i.e. the Moravian Parliamentary Papers, and on stenographic records of the meetings of the Imperial Council. The dissertation places the life and work of Ignát Wurm in a wider context and, thanks to his extensive activities in the social, cultural, and political spheres, it illustrates a possible form of Czech emancipation processes in Moravia in the second half of the 19th century and the role of the individual in them.
