Cílem práce je analýza prostoru v prvotině Josefa Jedličky Kde život náš je v půli se svou poutí (1966). Při analýze autorka vycházela ze zásady, že literární prostor je součástí fikčního modelu skutečnosti. Vedle teorie L. Doležela bylo využito také poznatků M. M. Bachtina, G. Bachelarda, D. Hodrové, Z. Hrbaty, V. Macury a dalších. V úvodní části práce jsou nastíněna obecná specifika související s problematikou zobrazení regionu severních Čech v české poválečné literatuře (odsun německého obyvatelstva, nové osídlování pohraničí, hledání domova, totální devastace krajiny jako důsledek rozmachu těžkého průmyslu aj.). Další kapitoly jsou věnovány životu a dílu Josefa Jedličky, především autorovu prozaickému debutu. Krajina severních Čech, charakterizovaná v Jedličkově díle prostřednictvím aluzí na obrazy pekla z Dantovy Božské komedie, je vypravěčem vnímána jako nepřátelská, jako krajina vyhnanství. Samotné město Litvínov, kde vypravěč žije, je čtenáři přiblíženo subjektivně laděnými popisy řady míst, mezi nimiž jsou zvlášť výrazně zastoupeny tyto motivy: chemická továrna Stalinovy závody, sídliště z typových rodinných domků (vybudované v rámci poválečného budovatelského úsilí), stavba Kolektivního domu a ubikace vzniklé ze zajateckého tábora z dob druhé světové války. Ohlas prózy Kde život náš je v půli se svou poutí přivedl autorku práce k otázce, jak byl genius loci severočeského regionu reflektován v knihách jiných českých spisovatelů. Na základě analýz kategorie prostoru u několika z nich se pokusila doložit zachycení specifických témat spjatých se zobrazením severních Čech v české literatuře po roce 1945. Pohled těchto tvůrců byl rovněž konfrontován s obrazem regionu v Jedličkově próze. Alespoň jedním dílem jsou v práci zastoupeni spisovatelé Bohumil Hrabal, Emil Juliš, Vladimír Páral, Jiří Švejda, Václav Dušek, Alžběta Šerberová, Zdeněk Šmíd, Václav Vokolek, Michael Konůpek, Martin Fibiger, Miloš Urban, Radek Fridrich a Pavel Brycz. Závěr práce souhrnně hodnotí přínos a originalitu Jedličkova obrazu Litvínovska a Mostecka.The aim of this thesis is the analysis of the aspect which is usually mentioned primarily in connection with Jedlička´s remarkable first work which is space, and his novel In the Midway of This Our Mortal Life (1966) is set just in it. In the analysis we proceeded from the principle that literary space is a part of the fictional model of reality and that is why it must be distinguished from the actual space which lies outside the linguistic work of art. Besides the theory of the leading expert in the field of narratology L. Doležel, we also used the knowledge of M. M. Bachtin, G. Bachelard, D. Hodrová, Z. Hrbata and others. In the introductory part of the thesis we outlined the general specifics related to problems describing the North Bohemia Region in the Czech post-war literature (displacement of German population, new frontier ettlement, searching home, the total devastation of the landscape as a result of the expansion of heavy industry, extinction of hundreds of dilapidated villages, a growing number of social pathologies etc.). In other chapters we dealt with the life and work of Josef Jedlička. There is mentioned both his published and even unpublished work here. We devoted a lot of attention mainly to the author´s prosaic first work In the Midway of This Our Mortal Life. The landscape of northern Bohemia, which is characterized in Jedlička´s work through allusions in pictures of hell from Dante´s Divine Comedy, is perceived by a narrator as hostile and the landscape of exile. In fact, Jedlička´s image of the Most and Litvínov Districts is very depressing but at the end of the text we feel expression of hope associated with belief in liberating power of love. Of course, Jedlička´s first work is not only demonstration of effort to catch genius loci of the North Bohemia Region in the Czech post-war literature. The response of the novel In the Midway of This Our Mortal Life brought us to the question how that theme had been reflected in books of other Czech writers. Based on analyzes of space category in several of them we tried to prove specific topics related to northern Bohemia in the Czech literature after 1945 in a different part of this thesis. We also confronted the point of view of these writers with the image of this region in Jedlička´s prose. Writers like Bohumil Hrabal, Emil Juliš, Vladimír Páral, Jiří Švejda, Václav Dušek, Alžběta Šerberová, Zdeněk Šmíd, Václav Vokolek, Michael Konůpek, Martin Fibiger, Miloš Urban, Radek Fridrich and Pavel Brycz are represented at this thesis with one piece of work at least. In conclusion, we summarized the main contribution and originality of Jedlička´s depiction of the monitored region: 1. It is about one of the first witness of Czechoslovak reality of the 1950s in our literature. 2. In our opinion, uncompromisingness of view of Jedlička´s narrator is associated just with the region in which Jedlička´s prose is situated. In Jedlička´s case, the environment of Litvínov clearly enhances artist´s feelings which are reflected in literary work and individually exposes basic existential themes of the text. 3. Another aspect involved in the originality of Jedlička´s text is the form which was chosen by the author for creating serious themes of his time. Jedlička proved both imagination, erudition and wide general knowledge not only in the field of literature but he also showed emphasis on language updating, intertextuality and subject matters of process of artistic works. 4. In particular, we have to appreciate author´s courage which he showed just in his novel In the Midway of This Our Mortal Life with respect to the theme and form of creating.
