O objeto desta tese de licenciatura é analisar os quatro contos selecionados ("A cartomante", "O Espelho", "Missa do Galo", "Pai contra m?e") de brasileiro Machado de Assis para discernir as manifestaç?es de diferencias entre a apar?ncia e a ess?ncia e os fenómenos que as acompanham. Primeiro, os contos s?o analisados separadamente. Segue a comparaç?o dos resultados delas para discernir os traços comuns na diferenciaç?o entre a apar?ncia e a ess?ncia na contística machadiana.The object of this bachelor thesis is to analyze selected four short stories ("A cartomante", "O Espelho", "Missa do Galo", "Pai contra m?e") by Brazilian writer Machado de Assis to discern the manifestations of differences between the appearance and the essence and the phenomenons that are bound to the differences. The short-stories are, at first, analyzed separately and then the results of these analyses are compared together with the aid of secondary literature to discern the common features in differentiation between the appearance and the essence in short stories of this writer.
