Transabdominal sonography (TUS) in diagnosis of extrahepatic biliary obstruction has only a rough importace for its low sensitivity and specificity. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP) presents a golden standard for diagnosis and treatment of choledocholithiasis. Radial endosonography (EUS) performed before ERCP or operations in patients with low to moderate probability of choledocholithiasis lowers risks, morbidity as well as costs.
