Práce navrhuje analytickou metodu pro popis postavy ve filmovém díle, vycházející z kognitivistických teoretických přístupů Jense Edera a Murraye Smithe a koncepce kognitivní sémiotiky Warrena Bucklanda. Při koncipování vlastního analytického přístupu se opírá o Smithovy pojmy zaujetí postavou (engagement) a struktury sympatie (structure of sympathy). Výslednou metodu ověřuje v případových studiích rozboru filmů Obecná škola (Jan Svěrák, 1991) a Pelíšky (Jan Hřebejk, 1999), se zaměřením na otcovské postavy. Rozdílné zpracování těchto postav pak na základě provedené analýzy označuje za symptomatické pro vývoj české společnosti v první dekádě devadesátých let.This thesis presents a method for analyzing the character in a feature film, intending to use such analysis to capture the broader socio-historical context of specific film works. The methodology draws on the theoretical approaches of cognitive film theory by Jens Eder and Murray Smith. As the core analytical tool, it uses Smith's concepts of engagement and structure of sympathy, while also finding inspiration in Warren Buckland´s proposal to enrich the cognitivist framework with certain aspects of semiotic and structuralist approaches. The method is verified in two case studies, analyzing the films The Elementary School (Jan Svěrák) and Cosy Dens (Jan Hřebejk, 1999). The analysis focuses on father figures and identifies the differences in the treatment of these characters as symptomatic of the development of Czech society in the first decade of the 1990s.
