EKT má v očích psychiatrů velký terapeutický význam a v budoucnu by rádi více zařadili i udržovací a ambulantní formu elektrokonvulzí. The topic of this thesis is to map the experience of psychiatrists with electroconvulsive therapy. It therefore includes sharing the experiences of psychiatrists currently working in various regions of the Czech Republic. A qualitative methodology was chosen for the research. The respondents were selected based on the intention of the selection, according to the established criteria. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection, followed by an interpretive phenomenological analysis. The research produced the following results. The experience of psychiatrists varies mainly according to the region in which they currently work and in what type of workplace. There were differences between psychiatric hospital, clinic, and ward. Within the regions, interviews were held with psychiatrists from 6 different regions of the Czech Republic. The differences are mainly in the financial area and in the perception of stigma associated with electroconvulsive therapy. However, overall, they all rate ECT as an effective treatment that used to be used as a method of last resort, which is now changing, along with new procedures and methodologies. In the eyes of psychiatrists, ECT has a great therapeutic value, and in the future, they would like to include more innovation and ambulatory forms of electroconvulsions. They still face the stigma of this treatment mainly due to lack of information and the influence of the media. Sometimes conversations with the patient's loved ones can be a difficult situation for the psychiatrist, even though for them it is essential the patient's decision. In the approach to the patient, transparent communication and a relationship based on trust are essential for everyone.
