The author of this master's thesis focuses on the processes of explicitation and implicitation in translation demonstrated on the language pair Czech - German. The empiric study conducted in this master's theses is based on the qualitative and quantitative comparative analysis of three Hermann Ungars short stories and their translations by Jan Grmela and Jaroslav Bránský. The author of the study seeks to find out if the tendencies towards facultative explicitation and implicitation shifts of the above-mentioned translators differ, to statistically determine how do these shifts tend to be realised via linguistical means and to assess in what ways (if at all) these shifts affect the text on the macro-textual level.
