This thesis is focused on uranium contamination of river Ploučnice floodplain sediments at the Boreček site near town Mimoň (Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic). Contamination is predominantly of an anthropogenic origin as a consequence of history of uranium mining in the region. The thesis aims to contribute to an understanding of partioning of uranium in the sediments and it's possible mobility. Field work was focused on collecting of samples using a manual groove corer, the cores were analyzed by hand held XRF. Collected samples with high concentrations of uranium and other hazardous elements were used for scanning electron microscope analysis. Determination of bonds of U on sediment fractions was performed by using extraction analysis and subsequent XRF analysis. Sediment particle size was determined using laser particle size analyzer. Uranium is dispersed in fine fraction thus it isn't possible to depict specific U-bearing fractions. During the time span of this work there wasn't any detected migration of U, however there is apparent change in U speciation.
