This thesis focuses on the issue of attachment and fathering of men undergoing a medium term therapy who are addicted to non-alcoholic substances. The theoretical art of the thesis will mainly focus on the description and the identification of the two key topics of the thesis. The first one is the concept of attachment and its importance for the formation and the development of the addiction. The second topic is the issue of fathering, which is considered from the perspective of psychology, sociology as well as addictology with the specific characteristics of the addicted fathers being taken into account. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the prevalent type of attachment between the responders in the research group and the subsequent conclusions and recommendations focusing on the improvement on their relationship with their children. Another part is dedicated to the exploration of the traits occurring in the addicted fathers with the focus on the importance of the offspring as a motivational factor for the abstinence. It is a qualitative study mainly based on ten case studies supplemented by the results of PBI and ECR questionnaires. Results of the ECR questionnaire confirm the conclusions from different studies which conclude that there is a higher prevalence of an insecure attachment in the group of addicted fathers. In all cases it is an anxious type of attachment.. The most commonly seen traits in the group of addicted fathers are repeating the dysfunctional parenting pattern from childhood in adulthood, the absence of a father in the family, high frequency of unwished children, negative self-esteem and a low motivation towards a change.
