Tato práce se zabývá menšinou Dai a jejími státotvornými a etnickými procesy se zaměřením na území království Mong Mao v dnešní autonomní prefektury Dehong na konci vlády dynastie Yuan a během dynastie Ming. Podle tendencí, které v jednotlivých obdobích převládaly, jsem toto období rozdělil na čtyři části. V každém se poté snažím procesy, které vedly k administrativní nebo etnické konsolidaci. Následně jsem vyhledal všechny státní celky, které jsem uvedl v textu v přepisu kronik Ming Shilu (Pravdivé záznamy dynastie Ming) a určil jejich geografickou polohu.The Dai people are one of China?s recognized national ethnic minorities and they reside in southern Yunnan province, acting as a bridge between China and the greater Southeast Asia region. The Dai have played a very pivotal role in the history of the Chinese borderlands region and Southeast Asia as a whole.. They created powerful states that had large influences on other ethnic minorities in the region. Over time Xishuangbanna and Dehong became their major settlement as they ruled over the other ethnic groups in the region. The Dai kingdom of Mong Mao had complicated relationships with other states in Southeast Asia and took part in some significant armed conflicts.
