    NoteEnglish subtitles. Set in 1927. Fegele lives happily with her father, a cantor, and her grandmother in a Russian village. With the ever-present threat of persecution her father leaves for America promising to send for his family as soon as he can. Soon after he leaves violence engulfs the village and Fegele is taken by a group of fleeing villagers who hope to get to America. Fegele ends up on a boat to England where she is renamed Suzie and sent to a Christian foster home and school where she is forbidden to speak Yiddish. Ten years later Suzie sets off to Paris where she hopes to become a dancer and make enough money to finally achieve her dream of going to America to find her father. She finds a job with an opera company just as the Nazi's begin their move into Paris....
