Zjištění poukazují na význam vztahu s lékařem, potřebu otevřené komunikace a strategií zvládání zahrnující aktivní přístup k životu, humor a hledání smyslu. This bachelor thesis addresses the psychosocial needs of patients undergoing brain surgery and explores which psychological interventions can contribute to their recovery or quality of life improvement. The goal is to identify specific needs from the experiences of these patients and, based on these, to design intervention strategies for improving care. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis and semi-structured interviews with a group of five (four men and one woman), it was found that patients initially face challenges associated with processing the diagnosis, deciding to undergo surgery, and fears of surgical failure or death. They expressed a need for support from their families while also tending to conceal their condition outside the family circle. Post-surgery, they struggle with the necessity to adapt to new life circumstances, which includes temporary or permanent consequences, changing employment, and the need to develop resilience. The findings highlight the importance of the relationship with the doctor, the need for open communication, and coping strategies that include an active approach to life, humor, and searching for meaning. The thesis states that the experience with brain tumor disease often leads to a reevaluation of life values and aligns with international studies on the care of patients with brain damage.
