This thesis explores the optimal control of quantum device operation using machine learning methods. As a use case, we focus on modeling the continuous polarization response of twisted nematic liquid crystals to analog control voltages. The crystals can be used for efficient transformation of the polarization state of light. However, we lack an accurate theoretical model of their transfer function. We present a novel approach for bidirectional modeling of the device operation using deep neural networks outperforming other models based on radial basis functions and linear interpolation. The optimal model reaches the average infidelity of 2 x 10^(-4) of the polarization preparation, which is the accuracy level not reported before. The model is utilized for accurate remote preparation of polarization quantum bits. The results of our work will impact the application of twisted-nematic liquid crystals, increasing their accuracy across the board. Furthermore, the developed bidirectional learning can be used for optimal classical control of any complex photonic devices and quantum circuits beyond interpolation.
