Práce se zabývá vybranými sufixy románského původu a zkoumá jejich produktivitu v angličtině. V první části se zabývá teoretickým základem problému produktivity, dále kategorií rodu v češtině a v angličtině. V následující části pojednává o sufixech ?ess a ?ette a jejich využití v angličtině. Dále jsou představeny zdroje, které byly využívány při psaní této práce: slovník Oxford English Dictionary (OED) a korpus British National Corpus (BNC). V praktické části jsou prezentována data z BNC a OED.This thesis deals with selected Roman suffixes and their productivity in English. In the theoretical part I concentrated on the theoretical backround of the productivity and the phenomenon of gender in English and Czech. Then I described how the suffixes ?ess and ?ette are used in English. Finally I introduced the sources I had used for my research: the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and the British National Corpus (BNC). In the practical part I presented the data of my research found in the OED and in the BNC.
