This thesis is a comparative study of the EU enlargement, where compared objects are two states of Western Balkans, namely Croatia and Serbia. Although both states were in simile starting situation, they are currently on a differentlevel of enlargement process. The aim of tis thesis is to compare the transition to democracy and the process of Europeanization and their success in both countries. The thesis focuses on three main areas. The first is to create a theoretical framework for grasping the subject. It deals with the theory of transition, which is logically followed by the second part. Then there is also the theory described enlargement of the European Union and defined Europeanization, which is used again in the third part. As mentioned above, the second part focuses on democratic transition in Croatia and Serbia since 2000, hence since the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 90s. The third section focuses on the process of Europeanization and integration of both countries into the European structures. There are described limits and barriers that countries had to or still have to overcome.
