The main aim of this thesis was to design and realize the process of detection of potential areas for inner urban development of Olomouc city based on remote sensing technology. For this task the Department of geoinformatics, Palacky university Olomouc provided QuickBird high-resolution satellite images. These images consist of two pictures. One is panchromatic image with spatial resolution 0,6m per pixel edge and the other one is multi-spectral with four bands (blue, green, red, near infra-red) with spatial resolution equal to 2,4m. This process consisted of three main methods. First of all it was necessary to apply the image fusion on the satellite images. There were four different fusions applied ? IHS, High-pass filtering, Subtractive resolution merge and Wavelet transformation. Subtractive resolution merge provided the best results among these methods so it has been chosen for the following processes. Next part was dedicated to the segmentation process. Segmentation aggregates pixels with similar spectral characteristics together and allows the operator to work with the additional attributes based on the object-based approach. These attributes are texture, geometry and topology. Third process was the object-oriented classification when two main classes were recognized. First of them were the large areas covered with grass. The second one were agricultural areas within the city. Based on this process 28 areas were recognized as the potential areas suitable for revitalization. These areas were grouped into four main territories based on their origin, type and location. After that there were four informative cards created ? one for each location. These contain technical information from the object-oriented classification, basic information about the location and conditions in the area, satellite image cut and some further information about the history of the area and its origin.
