This diploma paper explores the topic of media communication and its psychological aspects. It focuses on manipulative techniques used in advertising and explores an ambivalent attitude of the public to the manipulation in media. The work is based on general attitudes to manipulation (verbally disapproved) and analyses its perception or refusal within a group of respondents. A sample group of 200 university students were subjected to examine the following topics: requirements for a good advertising campaign, evaluation of contemporary advertising in the Czech Republic, credibility of information, and manipulation in advertising communication. The results show that the respondents prefer truthful advertising, and that they characterize analyzed adverts as manipulative and misrepresenting, percieving advertising as untrustworthy. There was a discrepancy between the declared manipulative effect on oneself and the declared manipulative character of advertising in general. The author discusses given findings and implies further utilization by communication agencies.
