The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the anatomy and physiology of the lower digestive tract, functional defaecation disorders and in particular faecal incontinence issues including the nursing process. The practical part presents the results of a questionnaire survey carried out in the departments of the University Hospital Olomouc and in hospitals in Prostějov and Přerov in February and March 2008. The survey results are summarized in the discussion and conclusion of the thesis.
