The diploma thesis deals with travel texts abroad with a focus on the Mediterranean, which were published in the periodical Lumír between 1851 and 1914. The period under study is known as the so-called long nineteenth century, which brought dramatic changes not only in the possibilities but also in the methods of travel, which affected not only the travelers themselves, but also the entire society. It was important for the thesis to realize the complexity of a clear definition of the terms travelogue and traveler. The thesis presents several publications with attempts to define the term travelogue, but none of them is necessarily binding. The term traveler was also subjected to a similar analysis. A partial goal was to investigate how often travelogues were published in the Lumír periodical, and whether travelogue texts had their own column. Therefore, it was important to create a cultural-historical context for the creation and subsequent functioning of the periodical itself. While poems and short stories had their own columns, travelogues were published together with historical and geographical articles in one common column. Travelogues were thus understood as professional articles or studies and were not given as much emphasis as fine literature. The most respected position in Lumír was given to poems, which were often printed on the front page. Another goal was to map which areas of the Mediterranean travel writers headed to. In Lumír, the most visited area of the Mediterranean in the monitored period was Italy, followed by Greece. The last part of the research is devoted to individual personalities who contributed their travelogues to Lumír most often. A synopsis of the travelogue texts of J. S. Tomíček, K. Mansvet, J Wünsch and J. Guth-Jarkovský was created. Specific routes were recorded based on the published texts. The emphasis was on the way they traveled and whether they mentioned other fellow travelers.
