Práce se zabývá vznikem progresivního death metalu na začátku 90. let na Floridě v okruhu kapel Death, Atheist a Cynic. Historické okolnosti zpracovává první kapitola. V druhé části práce jsou pak pomocí analýzy alba Human od kapely Death popsány inovativní elementy a vlivy, jež vedly k etablování tohoto nového metalového subžánru.The thesis deals with the emergence of progressive death metal in the early 1990's in Florida in the circle of bands Death, Atheist and Cynic. The first chapter deals with historical circumstances. In the second part of the work, the analysis of the album Human by the band Death describes the innovative elements and influences that led to the establishment of this new metal subgenre.
