The bachelor's thesis focuses on the suffering in the Old Testament Book of Job. In the introductory methodological part, we try to place the book in a biblical context not only in terms of the structure and origin of the text, but also in terms of the development of the perception of suffering in selected books of the Old Testament. As a common element, there is a misunderstanding of God's plans and intentions, as man tries to misinterpret them from the perspective of human justice and the direct causality of visible things. This causes a certain blindness through one's own experience, when the pain disturbs the view on the Lord and manifests itself in distrust of him or outright in unbelief. There are three analytical chapters following. The first one attempts to analyze the biblical text, where in chronological order, as they appear in the Book, we will observe Satan as the creator of suffering, the other characters and how they react and enhance Job's suffering with their inadequate interpretation and erroneous arguments. The chapter will end with a look at the final theophany and its significance. The following two chapters offer an interdisciplinary view of the Book of Job, specifically a psychoanalytic and philosophical view, which point to the topicality and updatability of the Book. With the help of psychoanalysis, we read Job's lamentations, that is, a statement about his own suffering, in which it is said that his vision of the world, and thus of himself and others, has changed. The philosophical view, in turn, emphasizes the existential transcendence of the suffering of the individual, which will never find a rational explanation, only an explanation of the faith through which the hope is experienced that God is suffering with man.
