Tato diplomová práce se zabývá středověkým latinsky psaným eposem o Waltherovi, Jedná se o relativně krátký příběh z okruhu germánských legend pojednávající o mocném hrdinovi Walherovi, který se svou snoubenkou prchne od Hunů, kam byli společně s Hagenem odevzdáni jako rukojmí svými rodiči. Hagen uteče jako první, a ti dva se na útěk vydají o něco později. Když putují královstvím Franků, král Gunther, jehož je Hagen nejbližším poddaným, se chce zmocnit pokladu, který nesou, a nenechá si to od Hagena rozmluvit. Tak vytáhne král s dvanácti muži proti Waltherovi, nepodaří se jim ho však porazit. Jedenáct mužů padne Waltherovou rukou, až už zbude jen král Gunther a Hagen. Ti s Waltherem zápolí, dokud každý neutrží těžké zranění, potom se usmíří a rozejdou. Práce si klade za cíl toto dílo, pokud možno věrně a čtivě, přeložit do češtiny a vytvořit k němu komentář. V úvodní studii je představeno dílo i jeho autor, dále se zabývá historickým pozadím příběhu a jeho různými variantami nejen v německé literatuře, i když klade zvláštní důraz na Píseň o Nibelunzích. Poslední kapitola úvodní části se krátce zabývá epickými zdroji a jazykem díla. Poté nasleduje komentovaný překlad. Na konci práce je jako příloha připojen také originální text.The aim of the thesis is the medieval epos about Walther, written in latin. It is a short story which belongs to the topic of german legends and it tells about the hero Walther, which escapes with his fiance Hiltgund from the Huns. They were sent there as hostages by their parents, just as Hagen. He escapes first and some time after that also Walther and Hiltgund decide to flee. When they walk through the land of Franks, the king Gunther wants their treasure, though Hagen tries to convince him not to do that. But king takes 12 men and goes after Walther. But they all fail, Walther defeats 11 of them. Only Hagen and Gunther are left. These three fight for long time, till everybody has a serious wound. Then they finally reconcil and go home. This thesis wants to bring a czech translation of this epic with an annotation. In the first part, there is an introduction of the epos and his author, also of the historical background of the story and the versions of the story. Apart the from Waltharius, it occupies mainly with the Nibelungenlied. The last chapter of the first part speaks briefly about the epic sources and the language of the epos. Then the annotated translation comes. The original text is in appendix.
