Teoretická část se zabývá problematikou pohřebních rituálů a vymezením souvisejících pojmů: zármutek, truchlení, smrt a umírání. Každým rokem narůstá v České republice procento pohřbení zemřelých bez jakékoli ceremonie, proto prvním úkolem praktické části bylo zmapovat procentuální výskyt pohřbů bez obřadu. Byla zvolena kvalitativní metodologie. Formou elektronické a telefonní komunikace byla s provozovateli 63 pohřebních služeb a ústavů zjišťována procenta pohřbů bez obřadu uskutečněných těmito institucemi. Nejvyšší průměrná procenta byla zjištěna u institucí v Plzeňském kraji (75 %), naopak nejnižší v kraji Jihomoravském (10 %) a v Kraji Vysočina (7,73 %). Průměrné procento výskytu pohřbů bez obřadu v rámci celé ČR činilo přibližně 35 %. Dalším výzkumným záměrem bylo zjistit důvody, které vedou pozůstalé k odmítnutí klasického pohřebního rituálu. Do kvalitativního výzkumu bylo zařazeno 51 pozůstalých, kteří krátce před vstoupením do výzkumu utrpěli ztrátu blízkého člověka a rozhodli se neuskutečnit pohřební rituál. Respondenti uvedli do nestandardizovaného dotazníku celkem 6 důvodů: respektování přání zemřelé(ho), obavy pozůstalých z emocionální zátěže při pohřbu, pohřeb jako nadbytečná záležitost, finanční situace pozůstalých, nedobré vztahy se zemřelým a nedůvěra k pohřebním institucím.Theoretical part deals with funeral ceremonies and definition of related terms: sorrow, mourning, death and dying. In the Czech Republic the percentage of funerals with no ceremony increases every year, therefore the first task of the practical part was to map percentage of occurrence of funerals without ceremony. The qualitative methodology was chosen. The percentage of funerals without ceremony was assessed in the form of electronic and telephone communication with 63 providers of funeral services and funeral institutions. The highest average percentage was found in institutions within Pilsen region (75 %), the lowest percentage was in South Moravian region (10 %) and in Vysočina region (7,73 %). Average percentage of funerals without ceremony within all Czech Republic was almost 35 %. Another objective of research was to identify the reasons why the bereaved reject traditional funeral ceremony. 51 bereaved persons, who suffered the loss of beloved one short time before this research and decided to have funeral without ceremony, were included in this qualitative research. The respondents mentioned 6 reasons in total in the non-standardized questionnaire: respecting the wishes of the deceased, concerns of the bereaved of the emotional load during the funeral, funeral as a superfluous thing, financial situation of the bereaved, bad relations with the deceased and distrust in funeral institutions.
