    NoteNedostatek thiaminu v potravě se projevuje anorexií, přecitlivělostí a hubnutím. Později se k tomu přidruží slabost, periferní neuropatie, bolesti hlavy a tachykardie. Tento deficit může být způsobený špatnou výživou a také alkoholismem (etanol ruší absorpci thiaminu). Nemoc beri-beri je častá v zemích, kde je hlavní potravinou loupaná (leštěná) rýže.
