Tato práce se zabývá územním sporem o Kurilské ostrovy, konkrétně ekonomickými a společenskými faktory, které tento problém provází. Jejím cílem bylo zjistit, do jaké míry ekonomické a společenské faktory ovlivnily jeho vznik a vývoj. Práci tvoří tři hlavní části. V první se věnuji nacionalismu ve spojitosti s teritoriálním problémem. V druhé se věnuji ekonomickým vztahům mezi Ruskem a Japonskem a jejich vlivem na územní spor. V poslední části se věnuji mediálnímu obrazu teritoriálního sporu. Byly zkoumány internetové články Asahi Šimbun za rok 2019, metodou, která byla za tímto účelem zvolena, byla tematická analýza.This thesis focuses on the long-standing Kuril island dispute between Russia and Japan. Its existence influences not only relations between the two countries on international level but also the life of people in the area surrounding the disputed territory. The aim of this thesis was to determine to which level social and economic factors influenced development and existence of the territorial dispute. At first general background of the problem was given. After that, two chapters follow, one is concerned with the nationalistic tendencies revolving around the territorial dispute, the other about the economic relations between the two countries and their influence on the territorial dispute. In the final chapter the territorial dispute was examined through thematic analysis of news articles. The examined articles were obtained from Asahi Shimbun newspaper (examined time period was the year 2019). The aim of the thematic analysis was to find out how are nationalistic tendencies and economic activity portrayed in relation to the territorial dispute.
