Tato diplomová práce se zabývá komentovaným překladem studie Metonymy in word-formation od Laury A. Janda (2011). Text práce se zabývá postupem překladu odborného textu a popisuje rozličné jevy, s kterými se překladatel při překladu tohoto typu může setkat. Jelikož je překlad vždy ovlivněn charakterem jazyků, zaměřuje se tato práce i na obecné rozdíly mezi angličtinou a češtinou a jejich vliv na podobu výsledného textu. Kromě komentáře k překladu a výkladu k odbornému stylu a rozdílům mezi jazyky tato diplomová práce také zařazuje překládanou studii do kontextu kognitivní lingvistiky a srovnává různé přístupy k chápání metonymie a s ní související metafory.This thesis is concerned with the annotated translation of the study Metonymy in word-formation by Laura A. Janda (2011). The text of the work describes the process of translating a scientific text and it explains various aspects that the translator of such text could encounter. Since any translation is always affected by the character of the languages, this thesis also focuses on the general differences between English and Czech and how this influences the translation. Besides the comments on translation and the comments on the specifics of a scientific text, this thesis also introduces the translated study and describes the various approaches to metonymy and the closely related metaphor.
