The goal of this thesis is the definition and identification of the essential aspects of cultural studies as the issue of intertextuality, identity, gender, etc., in context and in relation to the fictional worlds of Haruki Murakami. Thesis gradually deals with theoretical definitions of key concepts, such as postmodernism, fictional worlds, magical realism and others, to create the necessary foundation for the subsequent "practical" part of this thesis. Second part of this thesis focuses on the actual analysis of Murakami works, its cultural impact, and especially the identification of Murakami influence on issues of gender and identity, and their insertion into the postmodern paradigm.
