Karlovarský kraj je příhraniční oblastí na západě České republiky, který nebyl vždy celý součástí českých zemí. Vlivem této lokalizace prošel sídelní systém území několika zásadními změnami. Za druhé světové války celé území spadalo do oblastí Sudet. Karlovarský kraj je území s vysokým stupněm urbanizace. Na území se nachází včetně 37 měst 132 obcí. Rozložení sídel podle velikosti kraje je velice dobré. Naopak rozmístění obyvatelstva na území je velice nerovnoměrné. Oblast je charakteristická slabým postavením samotného centra a silným regionem, což bylo jeden z důvodů jeho vzniku.Karlovy Vary region is an area at the west borders of Czech Republic. It wasn't always part of Czech countries. Due to its location, the settlement system went through several major changes. During World War 2 entire area belonged to Sudety. Karlovy Vary region has a very high level of urbanization. In this area there are 37 towns and 132 settlements. According to Zipf's law there is almost perfect succession of settlements in their sizes, on the other hand most of the population is focused in certain areas instead of even settling throughout the entire region. The entire region is not so closely tight to the central (Karlovy Vary) as it is common in other regions.
