Nemoc je chápána jako fenomén, jež může být nositelem sdělení, tedy specifického osobního významu. Tento přístup se vyznačuje pohledem na člověka jako na bio-psycho-socio-spirituální jednotu, odráží potřebu smyslu a jeho důsledkem je aktivní, zodpovědný a akceptující přístup k nemoci. Za ilustrativní onemocnění byl vybrán atopický ekzém. Cílem výzkumu bylo zachytit možná sdělení onemocnění v životním kontextu respondenta. Byla provedena kvalitativní analýza životních příběhů u čtyř respondentů. Jako možná sdělení onemocnění, specifická pro každého respondenta, byla identifikována následující: otevřít se kontaktu s druhými lidmi, přijmout hmotnou (tělesnou) část reality, uvědomit si a prožít potlačené konflikty, přijmout a projevit emoce, volání po zájmu, zpomalení, obrátit se sama k sobě.Illness is comprehended as a phenomenon carrying a message. Such a message might have a personal and specific meaning. This approach is characterized by the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual unity of a human being and it reflects the need of meaning. The consequences of such an approach are an active, competent and accepting attitude towards the illness. Atopic dermatitis was chosen as an illustrative illness. The aim of the research was to find out possible messages of this illness from the participant's context of their life story. A qualitative analysis of the life story of four participants was done. The following topics were identified as possible messages specific for each subject: to open up to contact with others, to accept the material (bodily) level of reality, to experience suppressed conflicts and to become aware of them, to accept emotions and express them, a call for attention, to slow down and to turn to oneself.
