Cílem této práce je analyzovat téma technologie a jejích důsledků v románu Oryx and Crake a poukázat na Atwoodové kritiku neregulovaného využívání nových technologií moderní společností. Zkoumáním zobrazení genetického inženýrství, korporátní chamtivosti a ničení životního prostředí tato práce ukazuje, jak Atwoodová vytvořila dystopický svět, který odráží reálné problémy současného světa. Na tyto problémy jsem nahlížela z perspektivy feminismu, posthumanismu a ekokritiky, jejichž teoretické základy umožňují lepší pochopení Atwoodové kritiky. Tato práce dokazuje, že ačkoliv byl román vydán v roce 2004, zůstává i dnes relevantním dílem o dvojí povaze technologického pokroku.The aim of this thesis is to analyze the themes of technology and its consequences in Oryx and Crake and to explain Atwood's critique of modern society's unregulated usage of modern technologies. By examining the novel's portrayal of genetical engineering, corporate greed and environmental exploitation, this thesis demonstrates how Atwood created a dystopian world which reflects real-world contemporary issues. I looked at these issues through the perspectives of feminism, posthumanism and ecocriticism, whose theoretical background offers a better understanding of Atwood's critique. This thesis argues that Oryx and Crake, although published in 2004, serves even today as a relevant piece of fiction about the double-edged nature of technological progress.
