Plants from the genus Rhinanthus (yellow rattle) are root hemiparasites and preferably suck on grasses, i.e. plants of the family Poaceae. Parasitising grasses, they indirectly support dicotyledonous forbs in grassland communities. The use of Rhinanthus as a tool in the restoration of European meadows seems to be a cost-effective and non-destructive way. For the success of the method it is crucial to achieve the establishment of Rhinanthus seedlings in current grassland vegetation. An experiment conducted on five locations in the Moravia Slovakia borderland was focused on the effect of four types of long-term management on the introduction of Rhinanthus alectorolophus in the grass-land vegetation. Experiment included following treatments: leaving unmanaged, mowing, grazing and burning with grazing. At each of the five locations, Rhinanthus alectorolophus was sown in 20 permanent plots (five replicates of each management). Permanent plots were data monitored for four years (2014 2017) and whole dataset was then analyzed by one-dimensional and multidimensional statistical methods. Rhinanthus alectorolophus established the best in long-term mown plots. There was no difference in the success of Rhinanthus introduction between grazing and burning with grazing. Rhinanthus performance in unmanaged plots differed considerably between localities. In conclusion, long-term mowing in mid-July represents the best management for the successful introduction of Rhinanthus alectorolophus into grasslands.
