The aim of this thesis is to disclose some aspects of the problem of visual perception. In the first place, the thesis tries to show that encounters with pathologies and visual illusions are border cases in which we begin to doubt if we really understand what it means to see. With the Molyneux's problem as its background it opens philosophical questioning related to visual perception, and with the aim of finding the best theory of perception it goes beyond speculative philosophical answers and it turns to cognitive neuroscience, which brings empirical data, and then it tries to reflect them philosophically. Finally it finds sufficient empirical evidence for proving constructivist theory of perception, which was proposed by Richard Gregory and which presupposes, that in the process of perception the higher cognitive functions play the main role. To say it metaphorically: we don't see with eyes but with brain. In the end it tries to consider epistemological implications of adoption of the theory of perception according to which the perception isn't passive but active and creative process.
