Tématem této diplomové práce je analýza vizuálních proměn fikčního světa, města Gotham ve filmové sérii o komiksové postavě Batman z let 1989 - 2012. Konkrétně se zaměřuje na snímky režisérů Tima Burtona (Batman, 1989; Batman se vrací, 1992), Joela Schumachera (Batman navždy, 1995; Batman a Robin, 1997) a nakonec Christophera Nolana (Batman začíná, 2005; Temný rytíř, 2008; Temný rytíř povstal, 2012). Na základě neoformalistické analýzy u jednotlivých snímků zkoumá rozmístění ozvláštňujících prvků ve vztahu ke stylistickému uspořádání. Důraz je kladen zejména na pojetí mizanscény, práci s prostorem (design interiérů a exteriérů). Cílem je zachytit a popsat vývoj architektonických a stylových proměn Gotham City, upozornit na zásadní vizuální podobnosti s vybranými komiksovými předlohami a zodpovědět otázku, do jaké míry se proměny fikčního světa dotýkají charakteru samotné hlavní postavy - Batmana.The subject of this diploma thesis is an analysis of visual changes of the Batman series fictional world, Gotham City, in the films created in the period of 1989 - 2012. Specifically, films directed by Tim Burton (Batman, 1989; Batman Returns, 1992), Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever, 1995; Batman & Robin, 1997), and finally Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, 2005; The Dark Knight, 2008; The Dark Knight Rises, 2012) will be in focus. Based on a neoformalistic analysis, the distribution of specific visual features in relation to their stylistic arrangement will be explored. Emphasis will be put on the conception of the mise-en-scene and working with the space (the interior and exterior design). The aim will be to capture and describe the development of the architectural and stylistic changes of Gotham City, and point out the fundamental visual resemblances to selected comic book templates. Another objective is to investigate the extent to which the changes of the fictional world in the selected films affect the genre categorization and to what extent they influence the nature of the main character - Batman.
