Stejně jako totalitarismus vznikl jako reakce na krizi společnosti na počátku 20. století, vytvořil Platón svou obec jako řešení politické krize v Athénách. A stejně jako totalitarismus Platónova obec obsahuje prvky neslučitelné s demokracií, například vládu v obou režimech drží v rukou úzká elita. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na srovnání prvků teorie totalitarismu s prvky Platónovy obce a snaží se poukázat na fakt, že některé z prvků lze označit za totalitní i když je totalitarismus moderním fenoménem. Jde tedy o pokus najít jakési kořeny totalitního myšlení. První kapitoly jsou věnovány teorii nutné pro výzkum, tedy Platónově obci a teorii totalitarismu. Poslední kapitola je samotné srovnání. Konkrétními prvky srovnání byla ideologie, povaha mocenského centra, propaganda, cenzura a eugenické zásahy do společnosti. V práci se podařilo potvrdit, že některé z těchto prvků mohou být klasifikovány jako totalitní.Just as we can describe totalitarianism as a response to social crisis from the beginning of 20 century, we can describe Plato?s ideal state as a reaction to political and social crisis in Athens. Both these constructs contain in their ideology non-democratic parts like monistic centre of power. The bachelor thesis is focused on comparison of these elements and seeks to demonstrate that we can mark parts of Plato?s social construct totalitarian, even if totalitarianism is modern phenomena. Its goal is to find the roots of totalitarian thought. The opening chapters cover theory necessary for the research. Last chapter contains comparison. The specific parts of the comparison were ideology, nature of the power centre, propaganda, censorship and eugenics. Based on the research some of the parts might be considered as totalitarian.
