This work is concerned with the phenomenon of memory, which I present here both from ontologico-psychological point of view through the work of Henri Bergson, and from scientific point of view where I work out the approaches mostly of authors like Walter J. Freeman (neurodynamics), Gerald Edelman (neural darwinism) and Ichiro Tsuda (neurochaos). The main purpose of the thesis is the analysis of specific function of memory - that is the fundamental formation of our present self-construction in the time. Obviously, only by the means of memory we can experience our authentic duration. We can find this approach not only in Bergson´s ontologically concerned works named Matter and memory and Time and freedom, but as well in results of today´s neurodynamical research. Above all it is the wholeness of active construction of the life history and the continuity of sensomotoric orientation that is treated here with respect to the role of memory. Both approaches deal with function and particular processes of memory, division of memory to its kinds, nature of consciousness and perception and with neural events connected with memory. Bergson´s concept is original and based on the key notion of duration. Perspectives of contemporary neurodynamics are diverse, but through philosophy of science, which whole this work stands on, it is possible to seriously compare these two views.
