Cílem této diplomové práce je posoudit postavení žen v Kostarice. Na základě ukazatelů genderové rovnosti bylo zjištěno, se se Kostarika nachází při mezinárodním srovnání na výborných pozicích. V politické oblasti je dokonce vzorem pro celý svět. Problémem je feminizace chudoby a nárůst domácího násilí. Výzkumem bylo zjištěno, že situace žen je velmi složitá ve venkovských, zemědělsky orientovaných regionech. Ženy zde mají podřadné postavení, celý život se věnují rodině a domácnosti. Ženy v Centrálním údolí mají velké příležitosti a možnosti, které jim usnadňují spojit rodinný a pracovní život. Problémem celé Kostariky je machismus a jeho vliv na společnost.The present thesis aims to evaluate the position of women in Costa Rica. The indicators of gender equality have revealed that Costa Rica achieves excellent positions in international comparison. In the political sphere, it is even an example for the whole world. The feminization of poverty and the increase in domestic violence are the major problems. The research has shown that in rural and agricultural-oriented regions the situation of women is very complicated. In such regions, women have an inferior status, and take care of their family and household all their lives. The women in the Central Valley have great opportunities and possibilities which make it easier for them to reconcile family and work life. Machismo and its impact on the society is a problem faced by the whole of Costa Rica.
