Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou způsobu, jakým současný Hollywood konstruuje specifickou podobu amerického jižanského prostoru v adaptacích románů Cormaca McCarthyho. Na příkladu čtyř filmů (Tahle země není pro starý, Dítě Boží, Cesta a Všichni krásní koně) si klade za cíl postihnout idiosynkratický obraz Jihu tak, jak je v dílech McCarthyho utvářen a zjistit, zda se projevuje rovněž ve filmových adaptacích. Práce se zabývá tradičním pojetím jižanského prostoru, a to jak všeobecně, tak konkrétně v kinematografii, dále zkoumá projevy jižanství v díle McCarthyho a v neposlední řadě analyzuje čtyři zmíněné filmy.This thesis analyzes the way in which contemporary Hollywood constructs a specific form of American Southern area as it is depicted in the novels of Cormac McCarthy. On the exapmles of four films (No Country for Old Men, Child of God, The Road and All the Pretty Horses) the theses aims to capture the idiosyncratic image of the South as it is visible in the works of McCarthy and find out whether it is also reflected in film adaptations. The work deals with the traditional concept of Southern area, both generally and specifically in cinematography, as well as investigates southerness in the work of McCarthy and finally analyzes the four aforementioned films.
